I'll be adding these drill descriptions (and photos) as time permits. It'll be an ongoing project for quite a while, I'm afraid, so don't expect too much too quickly. Thank you for your patience. Terry

The Catch-up Drill is swimming freestyle, but with a delay that allows the recovering hand to "catch up" to the opposite hand before it begins the stroke. After your hand enters the water, it extends into the "catch" position (fully extended under water) and stays there, in a straight line with the axis of the body -- until the other hand has completed the entire pulling phase and has returned to touch it. Then that hand pulls while the other stays in the fully extended position.
Purpose: to force the swimmer to concentrate on getting a full extension, a clean catch, and a narrow drag profile.
Caution: Since the swimmer tends to be flat on the stomach during the part where the hands come together, it is important to remember that the stroke is really to be performed on one's side, and that the regular stroke should pass through this "flat zone" very quickly on its way to the opposite side.
